In the East Kimberley there are clearly two distinct seasons – the Dry and the Wet. However, within each season there are subtle variations and seasonal expected occurrences, such as, at the end of the wet season, after the rain has stopped, many bushes and native grasses have grown enormously. Prior to the dry season beginning there are big winds that blow hard for several days called the “knock em down” . These winds push the tall grasses flat where they are often burnt during the dry time. In this painting Marcia has painted the thunderous and billowing clouds that brew during the wet. In the Kimberley, much rain falls in the late afternoon and evening, giving respite to the heat and humidity, if only temporarily.
