  • Pink Lakes at Hutt Lagoon near Port Gregory on the WA coast has become a popular tourist destination. This painting catches the vibrant colours and acknowledges the original people who gathered and met there. It is also a stop Ku'arlu Mangga made for many years with our youth bus, taking children north to the Murchison River near Kalbarri, connecting with Country and sharing stories. Now those little tracks are all closed to protect visitors and the Biotech plant, and parking is hard to find when the visitors come. The pink lakes have many moods, and some of them are dark. Some are dark from changes in the sky and season, some are memory of loss, some from disaster - a lead dray disappeared into the brine during settlement. This painting is one of series about the moods of the pink lakes, painted before COVID and stored for building renovations before we could bring it to market.
