“Kurjarala [is a] spring in the middle of the lake, north side of Bidyadanga. My family used to walk round there. Now [they’ve] all gone back to Punmu.”- Beverley RogersAs Beverley here describes, Kurjarala is a yinta (permanent spring) to the north of Bidyadanga, an Aboriginal community located on the Kimberley coast in Western Australia. Depictions of this landscape are informed by its striking physical nature; here the Great Sandy Desert meets the sea.During the pujiman (traditional, desert dwelling) era, and before moving to Punmu Aboriginal community, Beverley’s ancestors lived and walked around this area.
