Phillip Duckhole
Mowanjum Art and Culture CentrePhillip is a Ngarinyin man, born at Glenroy Station some 260kms east of Derby in the Kimberley of Western Australia. He and his family have spent periods living in both Derby and Mowanjum. Importantly, Phillip is a Cultural leader for the young men of the community.
Phillip’s depiction of the Wandjina shows an endearing simplicity. Additionally, his art practice encompasses shaping, carving and decorating traditional objects, and he plays a vital role when returning to Country to harvest bark following the annual wet season. These skills he passes on to the younger members.
