John Morrison


John Morrison is an emerging artist and multi-media designer. He was born in Darwin and currently lives in the Midland area. His mother is also an artist, and is from Queensland with connections to Central Australia. John’s father is a Noongar man from the South West. In his work, John explores the interactive potential of animation to tell his stories and love of pop culture and video games. John’s artwork offers a small glimpse into his intricate world of gaming characters, often hybridizing animals to create fantastical creatures. The choice of gaming and augmented reality is a method to deliver his animations lets the viewer interact with John’s art in a playful way reminiscent of his love of video games.

John’s work has been featured in KALYAKOOL at Ellenbrook Arts and Wangaree Community Centre in 2020, Catapult One at Gallery Central in 2019 and DADAA’s annual In Focus exhibition at Midland Junction Arts Centre.

His animated work was recently acquired by the Art Gallery of Western Australia, and he is participating in Revealed 2021 at the Fremantle Art Centre. John works out of DADAA’s Midland studio.
